Pedigree- Why is the pedigree important? Your not looking for a dog to show or breed, so what difference does it make? The pedigree is a record of how well that Boxer has been bred. If the Boxer’s pedigree has Champion Boxers in the first three generations (preferably more than one) Then your chances of having a well bred and healthy Boxer are much better. If the Champions are 4th or 5th generation the line has been diluted too much to make a big difference. So, why are they better bred and healthier if they have recent championship bloodlines? The answer is simple. Championship Boxers are owned and bred by people who take their Boxers very seriously; therefore, the championship Boxer has been screened for genetic defects, receives regular veterinary care, is proven to be the very best example of what a Boxer should be and it is bred with only suitable bitches, also screened for genetic defects. Showing Boxer’s is a very time consuming and expensive sport that an irresponsible breeder would not participate in. Also, the show Boxer’s breeders do not want unsuitable lines associated with their champion and they do not want sickly or undesirable puppies, so their mates are selected carefully. Many Championship Boxers are available for stud service and who wants to pay a high stud fee for breeding from a stud that produces inferior puppies? No one! To some, the pedigree may seem to be something to show off to their friends or they don’t care what the pedigree says; but, the pedigree, in my opinion is very important to selecting a quality, healthy Boxer.

Limited and Full Registrations- This concept confused me for a while and I had to think it over to come to my conclusion on this topic. If I bought the Boxer, why should someone else be able to tell me I can’t breed it?  The opinion I have formed on this subject is this: People limit registrations for three reasons I can think of. Some have merit and some don’t. The first reason is the puppy they are selling is not a good breeding prospect and the breeder does not wish to carry on the traits of that particular dog because they wish to better the breed. I believe this concept has merit, as breeding should be done to better the breed. If the breeder is allowing an undesirable candidate to breed, they are not doing what they set out to do. The second is that the breeder wants control of their dogs line. I believe this concept also has merit. When a breeder has put their heart and soul into their line it could be unsettling to allow a stranger to add whatever lines they wish to it. The third is for profit. This idea I do not understand and would not practice. Although I have purchased breeding rights before, the puppy is ether breeding quality or not and charging extra does not change that. For a breeder to say this puppy is not breeding quality unless you pay me an extra $300.00 is a ridiculous concept. I have read the argument that it is to discourage people from breeding, but the price alone does that. A breeding quality puppy costs more. Say it like it is and charge the higher price.

Limiited vs Full Registration

.The following is my personal opinions on pedigrees and limited vs Full registration. If you wish to express your opnion on these subjects please feel free to contact me. I would love to hear others thoughts, whether they agree with me or not, as I am sure there are many factors involved on these subjects and I have only read some of them.
