During a trip to Disneyland, which was a very long drive from Idaho, I began researching Boxer's by purchasing a book to read on the drive. Much to my delight, I discovered that Bubba was not unusually intelligent, funny or insightful, rather, he was simply a Boxer, as is characteristic of all Boxers.
The wheels began turning in my head and the need for more knowlegde about these fantastic dogs grew.
I have developed this site in order to share with everyone what I have learned and what has come from it.
Our Story: One day in late fall we came home late from fishing to find two boxers running around in our yard. Believing they surely belongd to someone, despite not having tags or ID of any kind, we went inside, figuring the dogs would go home. Bubba had come over to play with us, the other Boxer was very shy, and we had petted him before going inside (I never could resist a cute dog).
The next morning I was sitting in the living room, drinking my morning coffee and my husband walked in, with Bubba in tow, and stated, "OK, we can keep him, but he'll have to live inside" Bubba had stayed at the back door all night, despite the cold temperatures, and was shaking from head to toe, looking at my husband with pleading eyes, when he'd opened the door that morning. The other dog was nowhere to be found.
It didn't take long to realize what a special dog Bubba was.
Because of my love for Bubba I became facinated with the Boxer breed. I'll never forget the day a veternarian came to my house to look at a boat my husband was selling. I questioned the vet about Boxers and he stated, "Boxers just die suddenly, it's part of owning a Boxer". Needless to say I never took my dog to this vet. I did, however, start looking closely at Boxer health, especially in Idaho. The BYB practices in Idaho ran rampant and it tore at my heart that irresponsible breeding could take Bubba away from me. After discussions with my husband I decided to start an endeavor to bring healthy Boxer's to Idaho. I began an extensive search for reputable breeders to purchase two Boxers from. I failed after many many hours of searching. I decided to buy two Boxers from out of state. Sissy came from Everett, WA and Archer came from South Bend, WA. I drove ten hours to pick them up. Sissy and Archer, both had very respectable pedigrees, which I felt was important, despite the high cost, to perpetuate healthy Boxers, that looked and acted like Boxers. I'm happy to say that since then, I have uncovered a few reputable Boxer breeders in Idaho, though not many.
Bubba was the perfect nanny to Sissy and Archer. He played very gently with them and would bark a specific way when he needed my help with them. Bubba loved taking care of the kids and having the company. A few months later my husband went hunting for several weeks and, well, I started looking at puppies again and that's when I found Kaleigh. (I didn't get in too much trouble when he got home) Kaleigh came from MIchigan. I had to have her shipped, which I was very leary of, but it turned out OK. When I went to pick her up from the airport, the man behind the desk said, "You bought a Tiger" He didn't know how right he was:) Kaleigh completed our family and despite the fact that my couch didn't survive the kids, we're all living in harmony in Eagle, ID.
Update: Titan and Mia have joined our family:)
